Panel on Public Health

This is a great opportunity for students to learn more about the diverse work experiences and training the field of public health offers, and the different roles public health professionals play in the Madison area. Morgridge Center is Hiring a Student Intern

The Morgridge Center, in partnership with the Institute for Research on Poverty is hiring a student intern for the 2013-14 academic year. This is a unique opportunity for a student looking to gain skills in analyzing technical data and writing for broad audiences. Application will be until a successful candidate is found. WE Badgers Volunteers is Recruiting Student Leaders for Summer and Fall

WE Badger Volunteers is a semester-long program focused upon  sustainability and environmental stewardship  that offers students the training and logistical support they need to provide meaningful and consistent service to the Madison community. Teams of UW-Madison students, organized by a student leader, serve on a weekly basis for an entire semester and contribute to the work of community partner organizations engaged in a variety of sustainability initiatives. Study Abroad in Ecuador, South America

Do you want to swim with sea lions and penguins in the Galapagos, track monkeys in the Amazon rainforest, and gain hands-on tropical conservation experience in Ecuador? The Ceiba Foundation and the University of Wisconsin are proud to announce a unique semester-abroad program! In this exciting program students are immersed in some of the richest ecosystems on Earth, and gain first-hand experience in ongoing conservation projects!  After intensive Spanish training and homestays in Quito, we embark on an extended exploration of Ecuador’s magnificent tropical habitats.  Participants spend two weeks conducting research in the western Amazon rainforest, investigate at length ongoing Ceiba conservation projects in Andean cloud forest and on the wild Pacific coast, and study marine biology during a three-week visit to the world-famous Galapagos Islands.  During the final month you willl put your training into action by undertaking an internship with a local organization of your choice! Fulbright U.S. Student Undergraduate Information Session

Come meet  Zig Hampel-Arias ,  a Fulbright Alumni Ambassador  and current graduate student in the Physics department, who received a Fulbright grant to do research after completing his undergraduate degree. We will discuss the different types of grant categories, the application process, and how to start planning for your project.   If you are an undergraduate interested in pursuing a project abroad after you graduate, this session is for you--it is never too early to find out what you need for a competitive Fulbright application. If you will be graduating in December 2013 or May 2014, you should begin planning your Fulbright project now. Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters is Seeking Interns

'Give a Damn?' a Documentary Screening

The Global Food Security FIG (first-year interest group) here at UW-Madison invite you to a screening of 'Give A Damn?'  'Give A Damn?' is an upbeat, comical documentary about three men who film their adventures, successes, and failures, traveling across three continents living in poverty on a $1.25 a day.  Please watch the trailer at:  http://www.giveadamndoc.com/main/ The first screening will be April 18, 2013 form 6:00-10:00 p.m. in the Mendota Room of Dejope Hall, and a second showing on April 19, 2013 from 6:30-10:00 p.m. in the Symphony Room at Gordon Commons.

Interviewing Skills is on  Tuesday, April 23 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in room 120 Middleton Building. Introduction to Careers in the Environment/Green Careers (targeted to those at the earlier stages of considering enviromental careers) is on  Wednesday, April 24  from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in room 120 Middleton Building.

Exploration Center is hiring two Peer Mentors

The Exploration Center for Majors and Careers (EC), part of the Cross-College Advising Service, is seeking undergraduates to work with students exploring majors and careers. Career Peers assist students with career exploration. Job duties include helping students navigate the EC resources, as well as scheduling appointments, answering phones, filing, and other projects as assigned.  We seek Career Peers who represent our student population in age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, city/state/country of origin, and major, including those with a declared major and those still deciding. ALL are encouraged to apply. Information Session on the U.S. Department of State Internship Program

Come learn about the U.S. Department of State Student Internship Program on Tuesday, April 23 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. TITU - Union South. This session will focus on the nuts and bolts of the application process and tips for writing a top-notch personal statement. Former State Department interns will be on hand to discuss their experiences working in Washington, D.C. and U.S. embassies abroad. No registration is required. UW-Madison is offering a Late-Spring 'LSAT Prep Course'

UW Law School is offering a 22 hour course in preparation for the content of the LSAT  (reading comprehension, logical reasoning, and analytical  reading). 3rd Annual Suicide Prevention Walk

ASK.LISTEN.SAVE. is hosting its 3rd Annual Suicide Prevention Walk on April 21 , beginning at the basketball court area behind Sellery Hall and following along Lakeshore Path. The past two years, the walk has won the award for #1 Fundraising Walk in the country and it would be great if it could be even more successful this year, to raise money for local and national suicide prevention efforts and to make students on campus aware of mental health resources available to them.  More information on how to register for or donate to the walk can be found  here .

REU Positions at MSU

The Behavior, Information, and Technology lab (BITLab) at Michigan State University works on a wide range of projects that encompass Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction, and Social Science. As an interdisciplinary lab, we provide students with the opportunity to work on research projects with the potential to improve our understanding of how technology and people affect each other. The majority of our research projects are team-based and involve both technical computer science and social / behavioral components. Students working in our lab will gain experience working in an interdisciplinary team. Students will also have the opportunity to help guide the research being conducted and the flexibility to design and test their own solutions to problems. Several computer science and social science summer NSF REU internship positions are available in the BITLab at MSU. The internships start on May 28, 2013, and run for 10 weeks, 40-hours per week. Drop-In Peer Research Mentors Now Available

Are you an undergraduate who may want to get involved in research on the UW-Madison campus?  Do you wish there was a place on campus where you could go to get advice from experienced peers on finding research opportunities?  You're in luck! We now have drop-in peer mentors at Steenbock Library on Tuesdays from 4:00-6:00 p.m. and Wednesdays from 6:00-8:00 p.m., April 2 - May 8 . This programming is part of The Bio Commons Project, a joint initiative of the Institute for Biology Education and Steenbock Library, creating common space and resources to support students in the biological sciences. Center for Pre-Health Advising office is hiring two Peer Mentors/Office Assistants

The Center for Pre-Health Advising works with students who are applying to health professions programs after completing their undergraduate degree.  We are hiring 2 students to work as peer mentors at the SOAR Academic Connections Fair this summer and in our office. At SOAR, the Peer Mentor will talk with incoming freshman and their parents about our office and the services we provide. Application deadline is Friday, April 5, 2013 .
