Honors Online

The L&S Honors Program is now hiring Honors Peer Advisors for SOAR 2014! Honors Peer Advisors work in a dynamic team setting with a professional academic advisor to provide one-on-one and small group advising related to academic and co-curricular life at UW-Madison during SOAR. Peer Advisors help students select and register for fall classes, as well as develop and implement additional advising resources and Honors programming.

Hilldale Undergraduate/Faculty Research Fellowships and Holstrom Environmental Scholarships  provide support for collaborative research between undergraduate students and faculty or research/instructional academic staff members. Each provides a grant of $3,000 to the student and $500 to the faculty/staff mentor (up to $1,000 under exceptional circumstances) to help offset research costs. Students must have at least junior standing at the time of application, and the Holstrom Scholarships require an environmental focus.  The application deadline is February 17, 2014 . The University Bookstore Academic Excellence Awards provide $1,000 to undergraduate students who have distinguished themselves by completing outstanding projects, such as a senior thesis, at UW-Madison. Students must be enrolled in a degree program during the 2013-2014 academic year (but December 2013 graduates may apply).  Applications are due March 24, 2014 . Thinking about applying to law school? L&S is offering a low-cost mini LSAT Prep course this spring! It will include 22 hours of preparation for the content of the LSAT (reading comprehension,logical reasoning, and analytical reading). There will be two course options:  February 15-March 2, 2014 March 29 - April 13, 2014 The cost of the course is $200.00 and applications are available online . Question? Are you interested in biology and writing? The International is a news website that features articles from a variety of sources on issues of public interest. We are currently looking for reporters of biology topics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Interns are provided with training on how to write for the online environment while maintaining high journalistic standards, a skill that proves invaluable for anyone who may want to break into journalism or write a blog in the future. The L&S Honors Program will be hosting graduation checks at the Honors Program Office in Washburn Observatory next week at the following times to make sure that you are on track to complete your degree requirements:  Wednesday, December 11 from 1:00-4:00 p.m.   Thursday, December 12 from 1:00-4:00 p.m.   Friday, December 13 from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
