Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships are funded by the U.S. Department of Education and administered by the UW's National Resource Centers to assist students in acquiring foreign language and either area or international studies competencies.

Applications by students in professional fields are encouraged. Preference will be given to applicants with a high level of academic ability and with previous language training.

Application deadline is February 13, 2015.

Please note that you can not apply for a FLAS to study Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.
Only graduate students in professional school can apply for a FLAS to study French or German. Undergraduate applicants must have completed at least one year of language instruction in the target language prior to the start of the FLAS award.
