Where do I get my stole?  To be recognized as an Honors candidate at the Saturday Commencement Ceremony, you should wear the Honors stole (white with three cardinal bars) with your cap and gown.  Your name will be on a list at the University Bookstore where you will be able to pick up your academic regalia. Students on that list can pick up the Honors stole (the white stole with three cardinal bars) to wear with their cap and gown. A deposit is required to pick up the stole. Which stole do I wear?  If you are graduating both with an Honors degree and with Distinction, you should wear the Honors stole (white with cardinal bars), not the Distinction stole (solid cardinal red). The Honors degree is the higher "honor," so that is the appropriate stole to wear! Go Big Read, UW-Madison's common-reading program, has picked the 2015 book!  Just Mercy  by Bryan Stevenson  Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn't commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship-- and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever. Just Mercy is Bryan's remarkable story. The goal of Go Big Read is to engaged students, faculty, and staff in an open-ended discussion of important issues. Occupy Discovery A one-day art exhibition When: Monday May 11, 2015; 11a.m. - 2p.m.  Where: Wisconsin Institute for Discovery, 330 N. Orchard Madison is well known for its history of protest, from student protests and anti-war movements in the 1960s to labor and union protests in recent memory. The people of Madison have always been at the forefront of working to bring individuals together in conversation about difficult issues facing our community.  Occupy Discover is an art exhibition that will occupy the Discovery Building from 11a.m. - 2p.m. on Monday May 11, consisting of hundreds of photographic and hand-drawn portraits from people living in Wisconsin. The display is spear-headed by Professor Faisal Abdu'Allah of the Art Department, and will take place in a building on campus that aims to "push our discoveries beyond the boundaries of the university and draw on the brightest minds to improve people's lives around the world" .
