Sarvodaya Fall Fundraising Dinner for Nepal and Sri Lanka

Join Sarvodaya USA invites you to join them for their Fall Fundraising Dinner! The dinner will feature traditional Nepali Food, a silent auction and a raffle drawing as well as live music and stories from past volunteers and students. Sarvodaya USA is non-profit organization whose mission is to " facilitate individual and community development to meet basic human needs, reduce material, social and spiritual poverty, and enhance the quality of life for all" The organization sponsors volunteer and internship service trips to Nepal and Sri Lanka.  For more information about their programs, please visit www.sarvodayausa.org When: November 7th, 6-8 p.m.  Where: The Crossing, 1127 University Ave, Madison, WI 53715 Cost: $10 To register for the dinner, please see HERE or purchase your ticket at the door. 2015-2016 UW System Liberal Arts Essay Competition

Do you enjoy writing? Are you looking for scholarships for next school year? Enter the UW System Liberal Arts Essay Competition! This year's competition focuses on the purpose of higher education. Students in the competition are to write a letter to the editor of their hometown paper that stakes out and defends a certain position. (Please see link at the bottom for the exact prompt). The Madison campus will select 2-3 semi-finalists who will each receive a $500 scholarship and then be entered into the system-wide competition for two $2,000 awards. All UW-Madison students in good standing (3.0 GPA) are eligible to enter.  The deadline for entry is January 25, 2016. For more information, including the writing prompt, click HERE .

Announcements for Winter Graduates

Graduating in December?  If you haven't yet, be sure to apply to graduate in your Student Center on My UW. The deadline is N ovember 13, 2015 . Winter 2015 Commencement will take place Sunday, December 20, at 10 a.m. in the Kohl Center. Zoe Timms , a 1997 UW Alumna and founder of the Women's Education Project will be speaking.  The Winter Honors Graduation Reception will be held December 19, 3:30 - 5:00 at Washburn Observatory . Invitation to follow. Before November 13, reserve your cap and gown from the University Book Store .  Where do I get my stole?  To be recognized as an Honors candidate at the Commencement Ceremony, you should wear the Honors stole (white with three cardinal bars) with your cap and gown.  Your name will be on a list at the University Bookstore where you will be able to pick up your academic regalia. 100- Hour Challenge

The  100-Hour Challenge  is one of UW-Madison's signature entrepreneurial contest.  In a nutshell, the event challenges teams of students to use donated materials from SWAP to come up with a new product idea in 100 hours (essentially over a long weekend). The teams then make a short video pitch of their big idea for the chance to win prize money! The contest is administered by the Entrepreneurial Residential Learning Community at UW-Madison and is open to all currently enrolled UW-Madison students.  SWAP materials pick-up day is Thursday, Nov. 12th in Sellery Hall , with final videos needing to be uploaded by mid-day Monday, Nov. 16th .  See the 100-Hour Challenge webpage for contest rules, technical requirements, and FAQs.
