2016-2017 Travel Awards for Study Abroad
Up to one (1) $1250 Abraham S. Burack Scholarship; one (1) $1250 Kurz Scholarship; and two (2) $1250 Directors’ Fund Travel Grants will be awarded to eligible L&S Honors Students participating in one of the University of Wisconsin’s Academic Study Abroad Programs during the 2016-2017 academic year. Students studying for a summer, semester, or a year abroad are eligible for these awards; however, preference for award is given to students participating in semester or year abroad programs. Review of applications and selection of the scholarship recipient will be conducted by the L&S Honors Program Faculty Honors Committee. Submission of this application will make the applicant eligible for any of the awards.
Eligibility:
- Currently enrolled L&S Honors Student (HLA, HM, or Comprehensive Honors)
- Minimum 3.3 cumulative grade point average (GPA)
- Participation in a summer, semester, or year-long University of Wisconsin Academic Study Abroad Program during the 2016-2017 academic year
- Progress toward the completion of the L&S Honors in the Liberal Arts, Honors in the Major, OR Comprehensive Honors degree(s)
- Strength of statement of financial need (see attached)
- Strength of essay submitted in conjunction with application (see attached)

Completion and submission of application form and required written
essay (see attached) and applicant’s UW-Madison student transcript (unofficial
or official)

Submission of one (1) letter of recommendation from a UW-Madison
faculty member in support of the application

April 25, 2016, 4:15 p.m. to Washburn Observatory
Notification
of awards should take place within three weeks of the application deadline – Monday, April 25, 2016, 4:15 p.m.
