What Can Art Do? - Play Performance
As part of the
"What Can Art Do?" exhibition (https://tinyurl.com/jfqhc4q),
there will be a series of performances on Sunday 5 March, beginning at 4:30 in
the 7th floor gallery of the UW Humanities building.
The THEATRE ETC Work
Group will present a reading of Lebanese author Issam Mahfouz's play The
Dictator, translated by Robert Myers and Nada Saab, beginning at 6:30pm in
Humanities 6321. Produced and performed by Jeff Casey, Monica Fan, Robert
Mitchell, and Matthew Young.
Mahfouz's play, first
performed in 1969 and only translated into English in 2015, is "a classic
of absurdist theatre." It tells the story of the General and his
obsequious companion Saadoun, who believe they are commanding a military coup
to overthrow the king and liberate the people.
