Midterm Study Evening and Dinner at Washburn Observatory

Come and prepare for your midterms while eating dinner in Washburn! Dinner will be available starting around 5:45 pm, and we'll be open until 8:30pm.  Use the conference room for quiet study and the library for small-group work. Apply to Graduate

Are you planning to graduate this semester? Do you have questions about commencement? This is the first in a series of emails that will provide the details you need to prepare for Spring Commencement. UW–Madison’s Spring Commencement ceremonies will be held on Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13. Make sure you know which ceremony to attend, and where ! Commencement for doctoral, MFA and medical professional degree candidates will be held on Friday, May 12 in the Kohl Center. Graduates need to be seated by 5:10 p.m. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will last approximately two and a half hours.  Commencement for all undergraduate, law and master’s degree candidates will be held on Saturday, May 13 at Camp Randall Stadium. The Wisconsin Experience Bus Trip: May 15-19

WEBT brings UW-Madison student leaders together to expand on the Wisconsin Idea while traveling and serving throughout the state. This annual, weeklong trip for emerging UW-Madison student leaders on campus builds bridges between campus organizations by fostering leadership, cultural understanding, and community. Previous WEBT trips have: Toured a dairy farm Held a Q&A with Lambeau Field's Outreach Manager Met with leadership at Lac du Flambeau reservation Shared dinner with Wisconsin Alumni Association members Volunteered at a wildlife sanctuary This year we plan on including aspects of year's past experiences as well as incorporating leadership and professional development while providing engaging dialogue.  Apply Today 36 student leaders will be selected to participate in this FREE trip. Sign Up for The Honors Senior Thesis Symposium

The Honors Program invites and encourages you to attend the Honors Senior Thesis Symposium on Saturday, April 22, 2017; 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Union South.  As many of you know, the Honors in the Major track culminates in a Senior Honors Thesis. This independent research experience involves choosing a thesis topic, finding a thesis advisor, conducting and collecting research, analyzing data, writing the paper, and finally presenting a year’s worth of research at the Senior Honors Thesis Symposium. Are you writing a thesis? Register to present! This event is an exciting opportunity to present your research to your peers, faculty, and university staff, as well as your family and friends. Your thesis need not be picture-perfect in order to present; rather, we encourage you to embrace this opportunity to discuss your findings thus far, your methods and the research experience at large. 2017 Awards for Professional Conference Travel

Bromley Research Conference Travel Grants are awarded based on a competitive application process to eligible L&S Honors students for presentation and/or attendance at regional or national professional conferences.   Review of applications and selection of Bromley Research Conference Travel Grant recipients will be conducted by the L&S Faculty Honors Committee. - Grants awarded for presentation at regional or national conferences provide up to $500 to the recipients. - Grants awarded solely for attendance at regional or national conferences provide up to $250 to the recipients. Priority for awards is given to applications requesting support for presentation at professional conferences. 2017-2018 Travel Awards for Study Abroad

Up to one (1) $1250 Abraham S. Burack Scholarship; one (1) $1250 Kurz Scholarship; and two (2) $1250 Directors’ Fund Travel Grants will be awarded to eligible L&S Honors Students participating in one of the University of Wisconsin’s Academic Study Abroad Programs during the 2016-2017 academic year. Students studying for a summer, semester, or a year abroad are eligible for these awards; however, preference for award is given to students participating in semester or year abroad programs. Review of applications and selection of the scholarship recipient will be conducted by the L&S Honors Program Faculty Honors Committee. Submission of this application will make the applicant eligible for any of the awards.
