Honors Senior Thesis Symposium

The Honors Program invites and encourages you all to attend the Second Annual Senior Honors Thesis Symposium on Saturday, April 13 at Union South. As many of you know the Honors in the Major track culminates in a two semester Senior Honors Thesis. This independent research experience involves choosing a thesis topic, finding a thesis advisor, conducting and collecting research, analyzing data, writing the paper, and finally presenting a year’s worth of research at the Senior Honors Thesis Symposium. The Symposium is an all day event. Registration starts at 8:00 a.m., and the Symposium will run from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Registration and admission is free, and includes a light breakfast and a lunch for all who attend. Here is a link to the registration site: http://www.ohrd.wisc.edu/reg/catalog_course_detail.asp?course_key=41690. The registration will close on Monday, April 1, 2013.

Attending the Senior Honors Thesis Symposium will give you a chance to learn more about undergraduate research and about the Senior Honors Thesis experience. We have over 60 students presenting their research in a wide array of disciplines and departments including: Biology, Chemistry, Math, Psychology, Communicative Disorders, International Studies, History, Political Science, Classics, Anthropology, Gender and Women's Studies, English, and Art History to name just a few. At the symposium you will have the opportunity to meet other Honors students, hear about the amazing work of your peers, ask questions about research, and hopefully leave feeling inspired to write a Senior Honors Thesis yourself. We would love to see you all there!
In addition to attending the Symposium, you also have the opportunity to participate in it directly. The Symposium is broken up into various sessions and each panel will require a moderator. A moderator works to introduce the thesis and its presenter, facilitate questions, as well as keep the session running smoothly and on time. If you are interested in serving as a moderator, just send an email indicating your interest to the honors email account.
