Willis L. Jones Leadership Center (JLC) Intern Position Openings at the Wisconsin Union

The JLC will facilitate unique and intentional experiential opportunities to develop students’ sense of self and their potential to lead.  Through their participation in the JLC students will aspire to recognize how their values, goals, identity and emotions influence their leadership practices and their ability to build trust and credibility. Students will be able to share ideas across multiple modes of communication, allowing them to engage in meaningful conversations and actions with others.  Students will be able to develop a shared vision for change and formulate actions steps to transform this vision into reality, and develop critical thinking skills to make decisions and solve problems.  Students will be able to work in community with others to foster positive change and seek opportunities to develop cultural competency and contribute to our global society. 

There are four JLC leadership series under development: a workshop series, a coaching academy, a leadership initiative grant and leadership conference grant opportunities. For more information please see below.


JLC Intern Responsibilities
- Assist the Leadership Program Director with program development, implementation and expansion of the JLC programs including the Empower Leadership Series, i.e. workshops; the Engage Leadership Series, i.e. coaching academy; the Energize Leadership Series, i.e. leadership initiative grant;  and the Explore Leadership Series, i.e. national leadership conference participation grants. 
- Identify and develop both human and material resources that will facilitate development of the JLC and the associated programs and services.
- Develop working relationships with campus partners, faculty members, administrators, student services staff, student organizations and campus agencies.
- Establish assessment tools and practices for the JLC.
- Develop and maintain, in collaboration with the Wisconsin Union Marketing Department, the JLC webpage and social media outreach.
- Develop and enact an on-going recruitment plan to attract participants to JLC sponsored events which will include actively conducting in-person outreach, hosting information sessions and on-going promotion of the JLC.
- Assist in the coordination and facilitation of the Empower Leadership Series workshops.
     - Promote and coordinate the application process for the Explore Leadership 

Terms of Employment

       - Hourly student appointment through the ‘13-‘14 academic year; 15/hours/week, negotiable, some spring ‘13 commitment required but also negotiable
       - $10.55/per hour, flexible schedule
       - Rank:  Specialized student employment level
