The L&S Honors Program is looking for Honors Peer Advisors for SOAR 2017


The L&S Honors Program is looking for student Peer Advisors to join the team! Peer Advisors work in a dynamic team setting with a professional academic advisor to provide one-on-one and small group advising related to academic and co-curricular life at UW-Madison. 


As a peer advisor, your will work during SOAR to present information and assist first-year students individually and in small groups. You will work alongside other professional staff to help students better understand the Honors Program and explore a range of academic options, select, and enroll in courses.
Peer Advisors can expect to work 20-35 hours per week at an hourly wage of $10.50 per hour. 
We are looking for students who meet the following criteria: 
  • Completed two full semesters at UW-Madison by the end of spring semester, 2017.
  • Continuing student status for the fall semester, 2017.
  • Membership in the L&S Honors Program (Pursuing Honors in the Liberal Arts and/or Honors in the Major) in good standing.
  • The ability to work with a broad range of undergraduate students with a variety of academic interests.
  • A willingness to learn about and facilitate academic exploration for undecided/exploring students, to gain knowledge of a broad range of school/college and campus-wide requirements.
  • The ability to relate to students from a broad spectrum of cultural, economic, ethnic, and regional backgrounds.
  • A commitment to diversity and building an inclusive UW-Madison community.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, listening, and public speaking skills.
  • The desire to work as part of a team to advise groups of students.
  • The ability to attend interviews and training, and work all SOAR dates. Planned vacations, study abroad experiences, and other jobs cannot conflict with training and/or SOAR dates.
Training Dates: Please hold May 23-June 2 for training. Training dates will be finalized by mid-February.

Continued training throughout summer on half days when SOAR is not in session: June 19 AM, June 28 AM, and July 17 AM - times to be determined.
SOAR Dates: 
June 8; June 13-16; June 19-23; June 28-30; July 11-14; July 17-19; July 24-28; July 31-August 4; August 7-10; August 23-31.
  • Peer advisors can expect approximately 20-35 hours per week.
  • Work will always occur between 8:15 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday - Friday. Hours will vary each day and are known in advance.
  • Peer Advisors cannot have other major commitments for the summer. Any summer classes, jobs, or other commitments cannot conflict with training dates or SOAR work times.
