Position Description
The College of Letters & Science (L&S) Honors Program is seeking an L&S Honors student in good standing to join our team as a Student Office Assistant. Anticipated start date will be in March 2018 through the summer, the 18-19 academic year, and possibly beyond. The office assistant works approximately 10-15 hours per week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30 pm, preferably in 2-6 hour blocks of time. Starting pay is $10.50/hour. The position can be designed around class and co-curricular activities. Night and weekend hours may occasionally be needed for special events.
The Honors office assistant works individually and as part of a team to provide support services, administrative assistance, and creative input to sustain and improve the L&S Honors Program as it serves students in their academic and co-curricular life at UW-Madison.

Primary duties of the Office Assistant include:
- Preparing and sending Honors On-Line, the weekly electronic newsletter for the Honors program.
- Editing sections of the Honors website when needed and updating the Honors On-Line section of the website weekly.
- Providing general office support including, but not limited to:
- Serving as a receptionist for the Program, including greeting/assisting visitors, answering the phone, returning phone calls, and responding to emails.
- Helping with mailings for admissions, graduation, and other events.
- Adding and removing names on the Honors email list (WiscList).
- Accepting applications and forms and distributing to the appropriate staff members.
- Filing applications and other forms.
- Working on special projects and events to enhance the programming or effectiveness of the Honors Program.
- Serving as a liaison between the Honors Program and the Honors Student Organization (HSO).
- Contributing to the success of the overall Honors Program by being creative, flexible, and jumping in where needed or asked by the program staff.
- Be an L&S Honors Program student.
- Have a willingness to learn more about the L&S Honors Program.
- Be a team player.
- Have excellent customer service skills.
- Have attention to detail.
- Have effective written and oral communication skills.
- Have proficiency in email (Outlook and Office 365), and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Publisher).
- Have some knowledge of or willingness to learn more about the University admissions process and other campus services.
- Maintain student confidentiality by learning about and complying with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA).
- Qualify for Work Study.
- Availability to work on Mondays and Fridays.
- Graduating 2020 or later.
- Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver).
