Graduating in December? Grad Check Drop-Ins

Planning to graduate in December 2018? The L&S Honors Program will soon be hosting graduation checks at the Honors Program Office in Washburn Observatory during the first week in May. Please stop in to make sure that you are on track to complete your Honors in the Liberal Arts (HLA) degree requirements: Wednesday, May 2, 1:30-4:30 PM Thursday, May 3, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM Friday, May 4, 10:00 AM-12:30 PM These will be drop-in sessions so there is no need to call or schedule an appointment in advance; just show up and we'll be happy to chat with you. We hope that you will stop in so that we can make sure that you are all set to graduate! If you have not yet applied to graduate in your Student Center, please do so. PEOPLE Summer Instructors Postion

Peer Learning Association Recruitment

Peer Learning Association is a student organization that provides additional study sessions for Chem 103/104/343/345, Bio 151/152, Genetics 466, Psych 202, and Physics 103/104 that are once a week for two hours. Facilitators lead these sessions by using an outline to discuss topics and lead their peers (students currently taking the course) through the material. Lecture managers meet weekly with the professor to create outlines for facilitators and peers to use in the weekly study sessions (this is a great way to get to better know your professor!). This Tuesday, April 24th will be the third-annual All-Campus Day of Service . There will be many opportunities for students to engage with public service on campus and off campus. More than 25 activities and events will be taking place all over campus throughout the day. Check the link above for more info! Students may also register to volunteer in direct service opportunities specifically at Magazine Literacy, REACH-A-CHILD, Second Harvest Foodbank, and Lakeshore Nature Preserve. Full-time AmeriCorps position at the Morgridge Center

The Morgridge Center for Public Service is hiring a full-time AmeriCorps member for the 2018-19 school year. This is an eleven month position beginning at the end of August. The person in this role supports the Achievement Connections high school math tutoring program in partnership with the United Way of Dane County. LSAT Workshop

Center for Pre-Law Advising LSAT Workshop will be offering another LSAT workshop. This Workshop is a great option for students who are looking for effective LSAT prep without to expense and time commitment of a full-length course. The goal of the program is to set students up to effectively self-study for the LSAT over the course of four, four-hour workshops. More information on the course can be found below. A limited amount of scholarship opportunities may be available.  CPLA will be offering a four-class workshop that will help participants launch a self-study program. The workshop will provide tips on how to approach test day, develop a self-study plan, and master each of the LSAT's three major sections.

BASES Mentorship Opportunities

Want to work with children, learn about homelessness, and make a difference in the life of a young student? Join the BASES program!  In case you're unfamiliar, the acronym stands for  B uilding  A cademic,  S ocial, and  E motional  S upports for children experiencing homelessness. Our undergraduate and graduate mentors are matched with early elementary school kids experiencing homelessness and provide in-school support to a child for a full academic year.  BASES has both class and service learning components. Students are prepared for this experience in a biweekly class that focuses on the potential of 1-on-1 mentoring relationships to aid young children’s adjustment to school and how to foster resilience both in and outside of school. Mentors will learn about the effects of poverty and trauma on child development through guest lectures, films, readings, reflective writing assignments, and discussions. Call for Applications:  Iwanter Prize for Undergraduate Research Deadline: May 2, 2018 The annual Iwanter Prize provides an unrestricted $2,000 award to one graduating senior who, through a senior thesis and general academic distinction, demonstrates outstanding humanities-based scholarship of a broad and interdisciplinary nature. Applications for the Iwanter Prize may come directly from students, but must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the thesis advisor. Eligibility is restricted to seniors graduating from the College of Letters & Science who are receiving a degree with a major in a humanities discipline.  The Iwanter Prize is made possible by a gift to the UW Foundation by Sidney E.
