Spring 2014 Honors Colloquium

Greening the Greeks, Recycling the Romans:
Environmental Perspectives from the Classical and Modern Worlds

Apply for the Spring 2014 Honors Colloquium! This year's colloquium will draw together the disciplines of Classics and Environmental Studies in order to think critically about mankind's relationship with nature metaphorically, historically, philosophically, and scientifically. Students participating in the colloquium in Spring 2014 will take two courses together: an upper-level Classics seminar (Classics 568) called “Eco-Classics: Greening the Greeks, Recycling the Romans,” and a special honors section of Principles of Environmental Science (Environmental Studies 126). Students in the colloquium will receive 7 credits of automatic Honors (H), including 3 literature credits and 4 physical science credits.

Visit this page to learn more about the two courses (including detailed course descriptions) and to see when they are offered! Details on the application process after the jump!
The colloquium is open to all Honors students, as well as declared students in the Classics, Classical Humanities, Classical Studies, Latin, or Environmental Studies majors or certificates.

How do I sign up?
Interested students should email the L&S Honors Program email account (honors@honors.ls.wisc.edu) with your name and student ID number as well as a brief paragraph about why you are interested in participating in the colloquium, and any previous experience, skills or background you will be bringing to the colloquium (for example: a willingness to engage in a thoughtful discussion, experience studying history or literature, or a passion for environmental issues).
Once admitted into the colloquium you will be authorized to enroll in both courses.

**Interested but not sure if you can do it yet? Don't worry! We want to hear about your interest so we can reserve your spot, but it's OK if you end up changing your mind!

Questions? email the L&S Honors Program at honors@honors.ls.wisc.edu
