Spring 2018 Automatic Honors Classes

All courses listed here carry the ! or H designation (at the lecture- or section-level) and are being offered during the Spring 2018 term. The list is subject to change as updates to the Course Guide are made. If possible, more robust course descriptions are provided in this document than in Course Guide. Religious Studies 333: Early Christian Literature: Matthew-Revelation An exploration of Christianity's charter documents in the light of what modern scholarship has discovered about the New Testament's sociohistorical context, composition, theologies, and presentations of Jesus. LIS 202: Informational Divides and Differences in a Multicultural Society This course explores the impact of and barriers to access to information on the lives of low-income ethnic/racial minority communities in the United States. The course provides an introduction to contemporary information society from a sociological perspective. In this course we will explore issues relating to information inequalities, differences or "digital divides" in the US with particular attention to underrepresented groups in the Northern Midwest including African-American, Hmong, Latino/a and Native American. Student SEED (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity)

  Counseling Psychology 325/Learning Communities for Institutional Change and Excellence/3 credits Student SEED is a non-traditional, grass-roots developed social justice course which uses “the textbook of students’ lives” as the main teaching tool. Students explore and share their own individual experiences with race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and ability in order to learn about and understand the larger system of privilege and oppression. Purpose: Student SEED seeks to create a respectful environment for students to engage in conversations about the impact of race, class, gender, sexual orientation, ability and other defining aspects of identity on their personal lives, on their communities and in society as a whole. Unlike most UW classes, SEED students are expected to share their own personal stories and feelings regarding these aspects of identity in order to learn from each other and learn about themselves.
