UW Music in Florence, Italy Deadline: February 7, 2014

Led by UW Music Professor Stephen Dembski, this program is a combination of musicians and composers and also invites non-musicians to join and be a collaborator contributing their own interest in music and expertise to the group. It is intended to bring composers and performers together to work on creating new music in the context of a major international music festival, the Maggio Musicale, which students will attend for musical inspiration and entertainment. This program is open
to both undergraduate and graduate students, and both music majors and non-music majors.


UW Global Education: Schooling and Teaching in Xi'an, China Deadline: February 7, 2014

This 4-week course is led by Professor Maggie Hawkins and will take place in May-June 2014 (one week in the U.S and three weeks in China) with a focus on comparative/international schooling, and teaching and teacher education in China. This program is for undergraduate students who are interested in education across nations and cultures.  The program will be located at Shaanxi Normal University (SNU) in Xi'an. Participants will gain exposure to a Chinese institution of higher education and to the teacher preparation practices of that institution, visit Chinese primary and secondary schools to observe instructional and curricular structures and pedagogies, and have the opportunity to tutor Chinese students in a rural school. Participants will also visit Beijing for a few days to further learn about Chinese culture and history.





UW Classics in Italy Deadline: February 7, 2014
Learn more about one of Europe's oldest cities - Rome - by joining the UW Classics in Italy program!  You’ll spend three weeks with a group of UW-Madison students, led by UW-Madison Professor Marc Kleijwegt. Included in the program is six day trip to southern Italy, where you'll visit the towns of Naples, Paestum, Pompeii, and Oplontis.  Don’t miss this exciting chance to take a walk through history with other Madison students!


UW Buddhism and Service Learning in Siem Reap, Cambodia Deadline: Funerary 7, 2014

This exciting 4 week service learning experience focuses on Buddhist responses to the needs of Cambodians in Siem Reap, Cambodia.  Under direction of the Resident Director, UW-Madison professor Anne Hansen, the program will include a service learning placement at an NGO or
Buddhist organization.  You'll have the chance to examine Buddhist practices of care including meditation, social work, community development, and traditional healing.  During the program, you will learn first-hand how Khmer Buddhist communities understand and practice compassion, and how they administer and offer different kinds of "social work" - as defined in local understanding - through Buddhist avenues of care and assistance.
