Foreign Language Area Studies Fellowships

Foreign Language Area Studies Fellowships (FLAS) are fellowships funded by the U.S. Department of Education intended to aid students in learning a foreign language. The competiton is now open. Students are invited to submit applications for Summer 2016 and Academic Year 2016-2017 fellowships and awards. 

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Applications by students in professional fields are encouraged. Preference will be given to applicants with a high level of academic ability and previous language training. 
The application deadline is February 15, 2016. 

Note: Undergraduate students can not apply for a FLAS fellowship to support beginnning language acquisition and must have completed at least one year of the language they are applying for by the time of the award.

3:45-4:45 for applicants for the undergraduate FLAS
5:15-6:15 for applicants for the graduate FLAS (graduating seniors who are pursuing graduate school in 2016-17 should attend the session for graduate-level applicants)
